October 3 Deer Hunt

Last weekend Mishel, Max, and I made a trip over to Prince of Wales Island (POW) for some deer hunting.  Mishel had Friday off and the weather looked good so we turned our weekend into a little adventure.  We hiked to the top of mountains into the alpine (above tree line) both Friday and Saturday and were able to get ourselves a little deer.  The plan was for Mishel to shoot a deer, but by Saturday evening after lots of hiking with not much luck, we built a fire to warm her fingers.  While she was warming up I had to check the top of one more ridge...just in case there was something on the other side.  There was.  Here are pictures from our trip.

Here is Mishel and Max posing with ouir winter food.

This is our little finger warming fire

Here is a picture in the sub-alpine, about 3/4 the way up the mountain

The nice thing about hiking around in AK is that there is always water available.  This is a little rain run-off stream in the alpine.

The trip was awesome! 3 things I learned:
1. I could use a tan-hence the trip to mexico!
2. 90's purple is not my color-thanks dad.
3. A little make-up wouldn't hurt on hunting trips!
But it was all worth it for a little time off and a good workout!
